BFI, London

On Thursday I joined my friends Helen & Val at the UK premiere for John Carter at the BFI on the Southbank in London. The film stars Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, and Willem Dafeo amongst others. I arrived around 5pm (straight from uni). Certainly a nice day for a premiere, nice and warm. The arrivals started at 6.15, and there was plenty of pre-arrivals entertainment, as well as PAs handing out John Carter stickers

The first person I met was actor Dexter Fletcher, best known for his roles in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Hotel Babylon and Band of Brothers. Dexter kindly signed an index card for me (I’ve given it to a friend as I’ve met Dexter before), and posed for a photo with me.

Next was the person I most wanted to meet, director Andrew Stanton. I tried to meet Andrew at his last UK premiere for Wall E in the summer of 2008, but wasn’t successful then. I was this time though! Andrew’s best known for his production work with Pixar (on films including Toy Story, Wall E, Finding Nemo, Cars and Ratatouille, as well as the voices ofEmperor Zurg in Toy Story and Crush in Finding Nemo Andrew signed and dedicated my autograph book, and posed for a photo with me. When the first one was a bit blurry he was happy to pose for a second :D

He was followed by Monty Python star and film director, Terry Gilliam. Terry kindly signed and dedicated my autograph book, an index card for a friend and posed for a photo with me. I’ve always wanted to get a photo with Terry so I was very happy!

As Lynn was signing, actress Samantha Morton, nominated for an Oscar for Sweet and Lowdown, came over. The two had a quick chat with each other, and Samantha then signed my autograph book and posed for a photo. She seemed quite shy but was still happy to stop for us.

Sadly Willen Dafoe and Taylor Kitsch were running late and so didn’t sign where I was :( although all’s not lost as you’ll see on my next post from my IP trip yesterday :writing: Really fun evening!
